FFFX 2025 Request Letter
Sep. 9th, 2025 11:46 pmThis letter is complete as of Sept. 20th!
General likes: character study, angst, yearning, slow burn, power imbalances - whether through status/class or age/life experience, complex relationships (including codependent relationships), "no one understands me like you do", sibling incest, processing grief, GNC characters, masc-of-center characters, arousal over unexpected/mundane/things otherwise meant to be nonsexual (i.e., the way someone walks/talks/acts, nonsexual intimacy), developing relationships, epistolary, pre-canon/backstories, moral and narrative ambiguity (including unreliable narrators), elaborate descriptions of rituals/meals/clothing/surroundings, jealousy
Fandom specific prompts, likes, and DNWs:
I love this book. To be honest, I would happily read most anything that takes place in this canon/universe and is focused on the characters I've listed. I'd love to read more about the Order, the rituals, maybe even what the Ceremonials might feel or look like through the eyes of an Initiate who isn't familiar with Juan. I'd love to read about what Juan does to make contact with Rosario after confronting the Order, as we really only get a taste of his attempts in the beginning of the novel. What shifts in Juan, to make him who he is when we re-meet him years later through Gaspar's eyes? What does he do, that we don't see, during that time?
If you read this book and one of the main characters (or ships!) requested intrigues you, I invite you to write about it!!
Canon-specific likes:
- playing into/up the horror and supernatural elements
- writing about events or characters pre- or post-canon
- the cycles of trauma!
- Particularly for Stephen/Gaspar, the focus on 1. how much Gaspar reminds Stephen of Juan and 2. "You're all I have left/no one else would understand" -- how that too, is horror, in its own way
Canon-specific DNWs -- I forgot to add these to my original signup, but would really appreciate if you didn't write these!:
- Genital mutilation or nail trauma (other canon-typical body horror or mentions/descriptions of body horror OK)
- AUs including fix-it fic, removing the canon supernatural elements
I love the immediate and deeply held loyalty Maia's two nohecharei have for him, and how much Maia wants to be close with them, even when they say he can't be. My thought for this pairing (threesome?), specifically, is how his devoted nohecharei would help him prepare for his wedding night. Inexperienced, unsure, and desperately afraid of leaving his soon-to-be Empress wanting, perhaps Maia turns to these two for advice and a little preparation, of sorts. Would love to see Maia's inner dialogue, his uncertainty and how he debates approaching this topic with them.
The politics and culture of TGE is convoluted and fascinating -- if you love that, plots and stories of political intrigue or court drama (or perhaps what Maia risks in being intimate with his nohecharei) are welcome, but not necessary to make me happy. If it brings you joy to go into the nitty gritty of the political machinations of the court, please go wild with it!
Canon-specific likes:
- lush descriptions of clothes/fabrics, hair, jewelry, cosmetics (i.e. hair and body oils/perfume)
- Maia/Csethiro: despite wanting to throw Maia and his nohecharei together I don't actually have any issue with Maia's betrothed. I do think he cares about and respects her. No need to tear down one ship to write about another!
- POV: If you have a particular favorite out of these three and want to set it through a single character's perspective (or perhaps alternating?), that's totally welcome. I don't need it to be from Maia's POV, I'd be very curious about either Cala or Deret's internal narrative throughout this!
I don't have a specific prompt in mind for this pairing! If Vex/Vax is interesting to you I'll basically read anything about them, I love them. The way Liam and Laura behave at that table as these two drives me INSANE. I think their relationship is so fascinating -- Vex's jealousy over Vax's relationship with Keyleth, their possessiveness over each other, the way they struggle with being apart (Vex, at some point in the campaign, dreading the idea of Vax leaving her). I think the way they both unabashedly love each other but simultaneously struggle with what that could mean to be really interesting. Importantly, for context when writing this, I actually never finished Campaign One, but I know the gist of what happens at the end. Happy to have a fic occur in medias res during the campaign, or pre-campaign of Vex and Vax before they join up with Vox Machina. If you're REALLY chomping at the bit to write some post-canon Vex grief fic, I love the idea of Vax haunting Vex and the narrative, literally or figuratively. Who doesn't love weird haunted ghost sex with your dead twin brother, amirite?? But happier fic for these two is welcome and appreciated.
Canon-specific likes:
- I love the group dynamics of the whole party, found family is a great trope and they do it so well
- Adventure/Dungeon crawl gone wrong: Life-and-death scenarios that make one of the twin's affection/desire/devotion for the other LEAP out.
- Sibling devotion!! Twin telepathy!! I say it in my general likes but to underscore here: No one understands me like you!! I think what's so tasty about twincest is that sort of "bond" they have, that intangible and inextricable link that they have with no one else (see next bullet point).
- The "wrongness" of it. This doesn't have to be a constant thread throughout the fic but sprinkling it in is very welcome. I love forbidden desire, and particularly with these two how that might feed into the frustration that they feel like they can't love anyone else the way they love each other.
Would really love to read some pre-canon stuff for Conclave! I'm so curious about what Lawrence's relationship was like with the Pope before his death, and would enjoy something similar for Benitez -- we know they corresponded regularly, that the Pope had intimate knowledge of Benitez's situation and still accepted him, and continued to correspond with him up until his death. If you're interested in writing epistolary fic, this is the prompt where I'd I'd be so excited to see it. A dive into their lives and relationships -- what was Lawrence's reaction when the Pope refused his resignation? What was that conversation like? When Benitez learns of his condition, what does he say to the Pope? Running these as parallel stories would be so cool, especially with the knowledge that one day Lawrence and Benitez will meet, but I'm also fine seeing just one of these play out and be the focus, whatever piques your interest more! I live for the Vatican drama, so following the suit of the movie in that way would be really enjoyable.
Canon-specific likes:
- I'm a sucker for religious rituals, rites, traditions, and the culture around those, so please dive into that!
- Similar to above bullet point, nitty-gritty details of Catholicism; we know Lawrence, Benitez, and the Pope are all fairly progressive Catholics. How does that play into their relationship, and (specifically for Lawrence and the Pope) the relationships they have with more conservative members of the Church?
- Lawrence's questions of faith. Especially in contrast to what (I view as) Benitez's steadfastness, I think his struggle is particularly interesting and something to focus on. I love crises of faith, and what that means for someone in Lawrence's position: does he hide it? Is he ashamed? He talks about it in passing in the film, but what was his initial, private struggle like?
I really really want a character study of the siblings in the aftermath of Logan’s death. I'd love to see how that grief comes out, how they comfort each other when the cameras aren’t on, beyond what we see in the show. Do they all sleep in the same bed the night that it happens? Do they fight or argue at all, or is it an uneasy quiet and comforting each other? Would touching or sex be comforting to them, and do they take advantage of each others’ grief to push that a bit?
I’ll let you determine if they’ve fooled around before, or if this is the first time they’re letting those emotions out in the open. Or maybe they did when they were younger but laughed it off, only to realize as adults that maybe it wasn’t just weird teenage hormones or kids playing doctor?
Sex can happen but again, I love this as a look into these three as characters and how they handle their grief. We get some of that in the show but I think there can be more! Gimme some inner monologues! You can even make this a bit unsettling – three children coming together after the patriarch’s death isn’t an unheard of basis for horror movies. What do we learn about Logan in his death, in the way his children cope with it? What is it like to look at them through this lens, and what are we, as an audience, meant to feel about it?
Canon-specific likes:
- I like how horrible they are to each other. I like that they're bad, selfish people. This should be less about sibling devotion and more about needing the others simply because they understand what it means to be a Roy, and to lose Logan.
- Logan as both an abusive and absent father (I'd say that him physically and verbally abusing his kids is canon, if you want to take it as far as CSA just keep it to minimal mentions/allusions/off-screen, as per my DNWs!).
